Adjusting treble and bass settings to optimize speaker volume

In certain situations, conferencing participants may find the speaker volume from a Nureva® audio system to be too low or inadequate. This tends to happen when a system is installed in a room that meets or exceeds the recommended maximum size. Often, this is most noticeable during media file playback.
One solution is to adjust the sound equalization, which is the balancing of sound frequencies. Nureva Console offers Meeting room and Classroom presets that provide an excellent experience in most spaces.
Understanding treble and bass
Treble and bass settings play an important role in the audio experience for each type of room. Understanding the differences between treble and bass will assist you when making custom adjustments.
Treble frequencies are crucial for speech intelligibility due to their projection of consonant sounds and vocal clarity. Increasing the treble can enhance the articulation and presence of speech, making it clearer. This is especially true in environments with background noise or reverberation. Keep in mind that an excessive treble level can lead to harsh or piercing audio that can cause listener fatigue.
Bass frequencies generally have less influence on speech-related audio compared to treble frequencies. However, bass frequencies are essential for delivering a rich music or media listening experience. Properly increasing the bass level allows listeners to obtain louder audio and enjoy a more immersive experience. However, it’s important to be mindful of excessive bass levels, as they can create unwanted vibrations and cause resonances within the room, resulting in reduced echo cancellation.

Custom settings
If the meeting room and classroom presets are not adequate, custom adjustments can be made in the Nureva Console desktop client or cloud application. Treble and bass setting adjustments carry over between the desktop client and cloud application.
When adjusting the bass, increasing the setting past 80% may negatively affect echo cancellation. It’s recommended the settings are adjusted while on a test call to minimize the impact.
